Nomination Process

If you are a public or private secondary school band director in the State of Washington, you are eligible to nominate up to four wind and/or percussion students as well as and 2 guard, 1 danceline and 1 drum major nominee for potential membership in the Washington All-State High School Marching Band. Each school is guaranteed at least one selection. The deadline for nominations is February 1st.

As part of the nomination process below, you will also be asked to give additional feedback on each of your nominees. As a reminder, each wind or percussion nominee must, in your professional opinion, be currently capable of performing a grade IV (medium-advanced) solo at a level comparable to a rating of (I) "Superior" on the WMEA regional solo and ensemble level.

Wind/Percussion Nominees

Please rank the order of your nominees if nominating more than one.

Also, if any of your nominees are percussionists, please comment on all percussion for which they have marching experience in the “additional director’s comments” box even though it may not be their primary percussion instrument. All students selected for the drumline must be willing to be potentially placed on a marching percussion instrument that may NOT currently be their primary instrument. Final instrument assignment for members of the drumline will occur at the drumline day camp on February 26th (when nominating a potential drumline member, please keep in mind that the band will only be utilizing battery percussion - no mallet percussion will be used).
 

 

Guard Nominees

Please rank the order of your nominees if nominating more than one.

Based on the number of nominations, it may also become necessary to hold a tryout session for guard nominees concurrent with the drum major tryouts on February 26th at the University of Washington.
 

 

Danceline Nominee

Based on the number of nominations, it may also become necessary to hold a tryout session for danceline nominees concurrent with the drum major tryouts on February 26th at the University of Washington.

 

Drum Major Nominee

Drum Major nominees must be available to attend tryouts on February 26th at the University of Washington. At the conclusion of tryouts, four Drum Majors will be selected. All tryout materials and criteria will be provided in advance of the audition.
